Walker Reacts to New Congressional District Map

"It is also important to remember that the US Supreme Court can and may issue a stay allowing the 2016 elections to proceed, unimpeded.... Regardless of the outcome, we are proud of our record and will do our best to represent the people of North Carolina."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 17, 2016

Representative Mark Walker (R-NC) issued the following statement upon release of the redrawn congressional district map by the State Legislature’s special legislative committee.

“My commitment to conservative, North Carolina values will continue to remain steadfast,” said Walker. “I believe individual liberty, economic opportunity and limited, constitutional government is the path the benefits all communities.

“If these new districts are upheld, I look forward to providing the new counties of Randolph, Chatham and Lee a strong conservative voice in Washington. I also welcome the opportunity to represent additional communities in Greensboro and Alamance County. At the same time, I would dearly miss representing Surry and Stokes County and the good people that are dear to me.

“It is also important to remember that the US Supreme Court can and may issue a stay allowing the 2016 elections to proceed, unimpeded,” continued Walker. “As absentee ballots have already been mailed, thousands of votes could be cast aside and voters would be disenfranchised if the lower Court’s demands are not stalled.

“Regardless of the outcome, we are proud of our record and will do our best to represent the people of North Carolina.”
